Further to Mr Young’s letter last week, don’t let’s blame the young people for Marlborough’s decline. I have lived here for 68 years and it is so sad to see it now.

Not only do we have empty shops which always contribute to a town looking shabby, but could not the publicans be asked to encourage their smoking customers to do it outside the back of their premises, rather than littering the High Street with dog ends, instead of using bins provided by the landlords.

We used to have pretty walks in the town. These are being totally neglected, ie Stonebridge Lane. This is so overgrown and nettle-bound it is almost impassable. Surely something can be done to bring Marlborough back to a town the young can be proud of.
