I don’t think Lewis Cowen can have been in a very good mood the night he reviewed Habeas Corpus (Gazette, September 23).

How anyone could have failed to laugh out loud in some parts and chuckle through virtually all of the production escapes me. A farce it certainly was, with all the components of a comedy using unlikely, extravagant and improbable situations, disguise and mistaken identity, verbal humour, sexual innuendo and word play.

As to the era, who wants to be reminded of those awful early 70s when we all had to endure the power cuts and the three-day week? Well done Mrs Lane for setting the scene in the much more flamboyant 60s, with a favoured Rolling Stones track to get us in the mood.

I will agree with Mr Cowen on one thing – the quality of the acting and the casting was exceptional.
