The former manager of Devizes Visitor Centre, Maggie Moore, has raised £1,200 for Rowdeford School by taking part in the Great North Run on Sunday.

Mrs Moore, 59, of Cherhill, completed the course from Newcastle to South Shields in two hours and 25 minutes.

She said: “The last mile or so just seemed to go on forever. It said 800 metres to go but it felt like three miles. But I couldn’t stop because all my friends and family were waiting at the finish line.”

Mrs Moore was hoping to raise £1,000 for the Rowdeford Charity Trust’s latest project, converting derelict kennels on the grounds of Rowdeford School for children with special needs into a vocational centre.

She exceeded her target by raising £1,200, with more money coming in all the time.

The vocational centre will teach horticulture and woodland crafts to the pupils. Anyone who would like to contribute to the project can do so at www.justgiving.com/maggie-moo
