People have been busy baking and putting the kettle on for Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Staff at Travelwise and Coffeewise in Sidmouth Street mounted their event a day early, last Thursday, to make the most of the market day crowds.

Alison Moffatt said: “I couldn’t believe it. We made £80 for Macmillan in the first two hours. We were selling coffees at £1 each, but people were giving more.”

The shop will also be taking part in the Turn Devizes Pink campaign in October, for Cancer Research UK.

Staff and pupils at St Joseph’s RC Primary School joined in the campaign on Friday with two events. There was a coffee morning for parents between 10am and noon and an event for pupils in the afternoon. More than £350 was raised.

Children at Chippenham’s Leapfrog Nursery helped make muffins to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support last week.

The nursery, off Chequers roundabout on the A4, held a coffee morning on Friday.

Manager Jackie Rutt said the event doubled as an open day. She said: “It was good for the children to understand that they were helping other children.”
