A woman had to be cut from a car after a crash at the junction of Bath Road and Dunkirk Hill in Devizes on Tuesday evening.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the site of the crash, involving a black Toyota Celica, a blue Peugeot 306 and a silver Peugeot 206 at around 6pm.

Pip Flowers, the commander of Devizes Fire Station, said: “The woman passenger of the 306 was complaining of back pain so we didn’t take any chances and cut the roof of the car so we could evacuate her on the back board.”

The woman, who has not been named, was taken by road ambulance to the Royal United Hospital in Bath but her injuries were not thought to be serious.

Mr Flowers said: “Until the person is X-rayed you can’t afford to take any chances, so you always treat it as a serious injury.”

Police kept the road open throughout the rescue, although with single lane operation. The road was clear by 7.50pm.
