Young people in Pewsey looking for a site to build a skate park have been rebuffed by the village’s secondary school governors and have appealed to the parish council for help in finding a suitable location.

Adam Pratchett, chairman of the village’s Youth Council, told the parish council last week that the governors were concerned about use of the skate park during the day, although he said it had been made clear this would not be allowed.

Adam, a student at St John’s in Marlborough, said the governors were also concerned about anti-social behaviour.

“The youth council wonders if there are any alternative sites in Pewsey,” Adam asked the council.

Parish council chairman Alex Carder said another site next to the village’s primary school had been put forward and he asked members if they had any other suggestions.

Coun Phil Stevens said: “We really need to look into this skateboard park proposal to see if we can come up with any ideas.

“It’s been a long running issue but the problem is nobody wants it next to them.”

Coun Carder suggested that the youth council pursued the possible site by the primary school and reminded councillors that the suggestion of a skateboard park originally came from the police as a way of countering anti-social behaviour among young people in the village.
