Members of the Bentley Model Railway Group are putting the finishing touches to their plans for the Chippenham Model Railway Show on Saturday.

It will be the first time the club has held an exhibition in the town since their major Trainwest event moved to Melksham four years ago.

Exhibition manager John Turner said: “As a group we have been based in Calne and Chippenham for 30 years, with ten of those in Chippenham itself.

“We took the show to Melksham because costs were becoming too high.

“We owe it to the people of Chippenham to put the event on.”

The show will feature 16 working layouts, with one of the highlights being a model of Black Dog Halt on the Chippenham to Calne branch line. Black Dog Halt was originally built as a private station to serve Bowood estate.

Mr Turner said: “We are excited about this as it was in a place a lot of people will remember. We are looking after the layout for the builder, Chris Leigh. He has kindly transferred it to the custody of Bentley MRG so that it can be displayed in the area which it represents.”

The show takes place at Sheldon School Sports Hall from 10.30am to 5pm. Entry is £4 on the door with discounts for senior citizens, children and families.
