The sound of live opera rang through Lacock Abbey this week as Abbeyfield School students composed and performed their own piece of music.

GCSE students were given the opportunity to work with professional composers and musicians from the English Touring Opera, and to put together an operatic piece in just two days.

Rachael Holtom, assistant visitor services manager at Lacock Abbey, said: “It was a really professional event and the students got so much out of working with the members of the English Touring Opera.

“The work they produced was almost professional quality and it was quite stunning.”

The group took inspiration from the current Celebrating the Negative exhibition and put together their own photography to complement the music.

The teenagers are studying the innovative Creative Media course at Abbeyfield.
