When former pupils of Devizes School get together at a reunion next month one of the topics for discussion will undoubtedly be the day lions broke into the school.
Ex-student Alun Wright is organising the reunion at the Bell by the Green pub in Estcourt Street on May 22 at 7.30pm.
He was among many students on campus that day in April 1980 when lionesses Girlie and Jessie escaped from Chipperfields circus on the Green and found their way into the school grounds.
One lioness was slightly injured trying to jump through a glass door and the other was coaxed out of the mobile classroom in which she had taken refuge.
No one was hurt in the incident, but it made the national news.
Tickets, £10 including food, will be sold on the door.
