THERE will be further consultation over the naming of Calne's new bypass, following a change of heart by North Wiltshire District Council's Calne Area Committee.
At a meeting last Thursday the committee decided to reverse an earlier decision to name the road Caln Pennsylvania Drive, after Calne's twin town in the United States.
Instead they opted for Beversbrook Road, a local name recorded in the Doomsday Book in 1086.
Calne Without Parish Council had handed a 500-signature petition in favour of Beversbrook Road to the committee at the meeting on March 10.
It was signed by people from the parishes of Heddington, Cherhill, Compton Bassett, Hilmarton and Calne Without .
The district council's land charges department will now consult Wiltshire County Council, the Post Office, the parish councils, Calne Town Council and Persimmon Homes
