PLANNING committee chairman Margaret Boulton used her casting vote to back plans for 15 new apartments on a current employment site in London Road in Marlborough.
Sarsen Housing Association is seeking planning consent for the apartments at 119 London Road which was the base for Harley's Coaches for many years but has latterly been used by a Volkswagen car repair specialist.
Town councillors who considered the scheme on Monday, July 3, were told the new apartments were intended to replace those Sarsen would lose from the proposed sale of Wye House in Barn Street to property developers.
The proposed development involves the yard, workshops and outbuildings behind 119 London Road but not the house facing on to the road which owner Anne Harley plans to retain.
Councillors were told the car repair business would be relocated without the loss of any jobs and that Harley's taxis would operate from a new base.
The committee locked horns at six all and chairman Coun Boulton used her casting vote in favour of the scheme.
