FARMWORKER James Williams was fined £150 and disqualified from driving for one year after admitting drink driving.

The 18-year-old, from Milton Avenue in Melksham, was stopped by police in Silver Street on May 27. A breath test showed he had an alcohol reading of 56. The legal limit is 35.

Muriel Wrench, defending, said Williams was devastated by the incident. She said he had just had one pint on an empty stomach.

Magistrates at North West Wiltshire Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, July 4, said the driving ban will be reduced to nine months if he completes a drink driver rehabilitation course.

He was also ordered to pay £50 costs.
