A PLAQUE is to be put up in Derry Hill's new village hall commemorating Lord Lansdowne and his father, the eighth Marquis of Lansdowne.

The exact wording of the plaque has yet to be finalised but the move is the first decision made by the village hall's management committee, formed on June 4.

Lord Lansdowne has been instrumental in raising the money to build the hall, plus the village is closely linked to his family, said Richard Aylen, the secretary to the committee.

The committee is made up of villagers and will be responsible for ordering furniture and equipment for the hall, as well as policies relating to its maintenance.

It's a fresh committee for a fresh place, said Mr Aylen.

The trusses for the roof of the hall went up last week and scaffolding is now in place to put the roof on.

Once that is done, work will start on the adjoining rooms, comprising of toilets, a kitchen, meeting rooms and a reception.

Building is in an interim period, we are about halfway through now, said Mr Aylen. The scheduled date for completion is in October.

Building started on March 21 and is being carried out by C Syms and Son, Chippenham.
