A STUNNED shopper returned to his car in Swindon's Safeway car park to find a snake sitting on the door sill.
While the shopper watched the snake, wondering what to do next, it disappeared underneath the wheel arch and into his car.
The Safeway customer decided he did not fancy driving a car around with a snake under the bonnet and asked staff at the supermarket to ring the police.
Insp John Simick, of Swindon police, said: The police were called, and after an hour and a half spent dismantling various body parts of the vehicle, the snake was located in one of the ventilation ducts of the dashboard of the vehicle.
The culprit turned out to be a non-venomous corn snake, which was about three feet long.
Insp Simick said: The snake was unharmed but a bit upset at being manhandled.
