STRIKER Martin Williams has finally joined Swindon Town. The former Reading hitman has signed a short-term deal at the County Ground which will be extended if he can prove his fitness. Williams was a target for Colin Todd in the summer but a knee injury meant the deal collapsed.

Now he has the chance to prove he has a future at the club and was due to play for the reserves in the home match against Brighton today (Wednesday, August 30).

Manager Colin Todd was also hoping to secure the loan deal for midfielder Mark Robertson.

He will join for an initial three month deal with a view to signing permanently.

The duo will give Town's struggling squad a huge boost, but Todd says he is still looking for two more new faces.

Martin would have joined us in the summer but he got himself injured and now he has to show he has the fitness, said Todd. He has pace and strength and will give us a new option up front. I am still looking for a couple of new faces.

Chairman Terry Brady, said yesterday that he will sanction the arrival of new players in a bid to kick-start Town's season.

He is set to meet with Todd in London tomorrow to discuss a list of targets.

Mr Brady said there were funds available to bolster the squad and spark a move away from the lower reaches of the Second Division.

We will be meeting in London and discussing where and how we can strengthen the squad, Mr Brady said.

We want to look at those available either to buy or loan who can do a good job for us either long-term or short-term.
