The season of goodwill is almost upon us and once again shoppers will have to put up with the delights of Chippenham Borough Parade car park.

Have you ever studied the line markings on the road as regards to leaving the car park?

Everyone is sent around the maze only to be confronted by give way signs but giving way to who?

The markings sort of fade into oblivion and this leads to cheats driving down through the no entry sign by the disabled spaces and getting out quicker than the drivers who have queued.

Chippenham traffic is bad enough at any time and this year looks as if it is going to be made worse by no park and ride scheme at Christmas.

So here are my tips for an easier journey without so much road rage.

l Switch off the bridge roundabout lights and make them pedestrian controlled.

l Make the left lane by the river bridge a left turn only and a filter system. Why do we have to wait to turn left when it is only traffic from Gladstone Road emerging into Avenue La Fleche?

l Make coming out of Borough Parade car park left turn only, or put in a mini roundabout.

l Make the flower bed outside the Goldiggers a mini roundabout so the left turn drivers from Borough Parade can still get down across the bridge. They will have to go a bit further but they will get out of the car park quicker.

l Put in a new exit from Borough Parade car park by the crossing.
