What a week in the life of a professional rugby player!

A fantastic win against the world champions on Saturday; supporting your club on Sunday and witnessing a heart stopping display; back to your international team on Monday; walk out on strike on Tuesday; make up with your employer on Wednesday and back to work as if nothing happened in the afternoon of Thursday; and Friday light run through and prepare for the game on Saturday. Wow.

Players walked out of the England camp on a matter of principle at least it seems now that it was a matter of principle as both sides are claiming a victory.

What is certain is that the sport of rugby has yet again hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. Strikes and money do not paint a pretty picture in any profession.

However, I support my players. That is not a club view, that is my view. I have to show support for players as in the near future I need them to play for me as head coach of Bath.

It was an awful position to be in when Clive Woodward said he would pick an alternative fifteen to play Argentina.

If England came knocking on the doors of Bath, I could not refuse as it was up to the individual player. But what was potentially disastrous was the possibility of six players returning from international duty on a matter of principle and six leaving to represent their country.

The split among the squad would have had a catastrophic effect, so thank heavens the issue was resolved before it came to that.

Resolved it might be on the outside, but I wonder what the damage might be on the inside. A lot of harsh words were spoken in the heat of the moment and that is bound to linger in the air around the England camp.

With two very committed and authoritive coaches in Brian Ashton and Andy Robinson, though, I have a good feeling that the national side could be quite successful.

The squad looks well balanced and the strength in depth is starting to show. An example of this is Iain Balshaw at full back instead of Matt Perry.

Matt was as solid as a rock and can feel his exclusion is only temporary. Iain though, is a superb footballer and needs to start the game on the park. His cameo performance was the difference between the two sides.

I expect England will find it a little hot in the scrummage, but in the end run out comfortable winners.

Tomorrow, when you watch the game, just focus on the scrum for little while. The Pumas are the best in the world. It is fascinating to see them scrummage. They just walk over the ball, and the hooker does not strike it.

Sunday sees the Recreation Ground play hosts to Rotherham. They may be rooted to the foot of the premiership, but they are a quality side.

The pack is huge and the backs are very direct. Bath has to tighten up its game. The defence last week was good in terms of organisation, but very poor when it came to execution.

Players were getting into good positions but not following through to make the hit.

It does not matter who you play. If you allow the opposition the opportunity to break, they will rack up points very quickly.

Sale did this early on, but our determination in the end came through.

Hopefully, it will be another exciting weekend of rugby, and there is no chance of the players going on strike Sunday.

One pay dispute is quite enough in one week, so enjoy the rugby.
