DUTCH defender Antoine Van Der Linden has quit Swindon Town after a blazing row with boss Andy King.

The player was substituted after only 29 minutes of Town's 4-1 thrashing at Stoke on Saturday and harsh words were exchanged between the two men at half time.

King was angry that Van Der Linden had refused to commit himself to the club and indicated that he had other offers to consider.

The player in turn felt he had been humiliated in front of his colleagues at half time.

Van Der Linden said: "I have played my last game for Swindon Town.

"I wanted to stay but for some reason the manager and I were not getting on.

"It is better for me to move on. I am just unhappy that I did not have chance to say goodbye to the fans properly.

"I hope I will get the chance to prove the gaffer wrong somewhere else."

Van Der Linden returned home to Holland yesterday to consider his options, leaving Andy King standing firm on the issue of player loyalty.

King is adamant that there is no room for players at Swindon Town who are simply looking for an opportunity to secure a better deal somewhere else.

He said: "When you give me ultimatums you better be good enough to back them up.

"These players are not good enough to make demands.

"Unfortunately this game is run by agents and agents put false ideas in players' heads and give them dreams of grandeur."

What also angered King was the way more than 2,000 Town fans had been forced to watch such an abject display after travelling by the coach-load from Wiltshire.

He said: "I would like to apologise for my team but the supporters were absolutely magnificent."
