A 37 year-old man hung himself after a heated argument with his wife, an inquest heard.
Karl Antal, of Frobisher Drive, had recently heard that he would be made redundant from his job at Findley's Beverages where he had worked since 1994.
Normally a quiet man, he started to drink more at the weekends and his relationship with his wife Paula Antal became strained.
The inquest at Swindon police station yesterday heard how Mr Antal spent the evening of April 12 out drinking in the Bulldog Public House.
There he had met with his brother and he continued drinking at his house before returning to his own home at 11.30pm.
A row then developed between Mr Antal and his wife which at one point became so heated that she contacted the police.
Mr Antal told his wife that he would be sleeping down-stairs.
But he was discovered by Mrs Antal, the following morning.
Emergency services were called and confirmed death at the scene.
A post mortem concluded that the cause of death was compression of the structures of the neck by a ligament.
Wiltshire Coroner David Masters recorded a verdict of suicide, adding that the balance of Mr Antal's mind would have been disturbed at the time of his death.
