Fight is on for keeper's jersey

The Dutch goalkeeper's first team future suddenly looked much brighter when Steve Mildenhall departed for Notts County but no sooner had Mildy disappeared out of the door than Richard McKinney arrived from Manchester City.

Griemink was handed the goalkeeper's shirt for the opening game against Peterborough and kept a clean sheet against his old club.

He repeated the feat against Bury on Monday and knows he will need to keep clocking up the clean sheets if he is to continue between the sticks.

Griemink is another member of the Town camp who admits the home hoodoo needs to be addressed but believes the result at Gigg Lane means the players should not approach the match with any fear.

He said: "Colchester have started well but I think we can go into the game with more confidence. It is true the players have felt more pressure at home.

"The win against Wolves was great but doesn't count for as much because you don't get points and I don't think we will win the competition."

From his own point of view, Griemink does not want a repeat of the second half of last season, when he was displaced by Mildenhall.

He said: "I know I have to perform well because we have Richard at the club. But I think that is important. A manager wants at least two players challenging for one position not just goalkeepers but all over the pitch."
