SWINDON College Old Boys' improved form continued apace as they returned from Saturday's Southern Counties South encounter at Corsham with a 40-12 victory.

The Old Boys, beset by early-season injury problems, have started to string some results together of late Wootton Bassett escaping with a point the previous week courtesy of a last-gasp penalty try

And they started in determined fashion at Corsham's Lacock Road ground, a converted try taking them into an early lead.

The home side responded with a try from left wing Craig Avent, converted by Rory Auld, during their best spell of the game.

But Swindon College exposed some lacklustre midfield defence to canter in for two more tries for a 21-7 lead at the break.

In the closing stages of the first half, Corsham lock Roy Hewett was sin-binned for remonstrating with the referee after a scuffle, visiting No 8 Tony Brant joining him for retaliating, while the depleted home side also lost hooker Tim Russell with a calf injury.

Corsham closed the gap with a try for right wing Martyn Shepherdson but that was to be their last say in the proceedings as Swindon College ran in another four tries as they took a stranglehold on the second half.

Prominent fly-half Mark Williams grabbed two tries for the visitors, their other touchdowns coming from skipper Greig O'Brien on his 20th birthday back row men Luke Wills and Steve Offord and wing Craig Evenett. Tony Flowers kicked the balance of points.
