Swindon Supermarine crashed out of the Wiltshire Shield last night at the hands of a spirited Wootton Bassett side.

A goal in each half from Geoff Swatton proved enough to give Bassett a deserved 2-0 win against an understrength Marine.

The only threat to their safe passage was the thick fog that decended on the Gerard Buxton ground during the match.

Referee Brendon Malone must have been tempted to abandon proceedings as visability levels swiftly deteriorated.

But once Swatton had put Bassett 2-0 up on the hour, Malone was never going to risk getting lynched by the jubulant home faithful.

Hunts Copse supremo John Murphy clearly wants to focus on the club's quest for Dr Martens safety and blooded academy and fringe players such as Richard Knox and Liam Thompson.

But Marine still had seven regulars in the starting line-up, so Bassett can be rightly proud of their performance.

Ray Baverstock's Mangotsfield jinx reared it's head again last night, as Cirencester were dumped out of the Dr Martens Cup by the Bristol side.

A 3-1 defeat at Cossham Street adds to 4-0 and 4-1 losses for Ciren against 'Field already this season.

Darren Edwards and Mark Summers put the hosts 2-0 up, before James Blastland gave Ciren a glimmer with an 80th minute strike.

Edwards though, struck again on 83, to leave Baverstock with only the league programme to concentrate on.

In the Screwfix Premier Division, Devizes Town continue to underachieve, after slumping to a 4-0 home defeat to Backwell United.

Highworth Town's scheduled Hellenic Premier clash with Cirencester Academy fell foul of the elements, and will be rearranged at a later date.
