PEWSEY parish councillors have hit out at Marlborough Town Council for contemplating pulling out of a district-wide CCTV security scheme.

Tuesday's meeting of the parish council was told the town is investigating whether it can afford to install and run a system of its own.

This is despite the long-term initiative by the Kennet Community Safety Partnership, which is about to unveil a feasibility study into the possibility of a joint CCTV system in Devizes, Marlborough, Pewsey and Tidworth.

Coun Geoff Olsen told Tuesday's meeting: "It baffles me that they have now decided to go on their own.

"It seems their attitude is 'the devil take the hindmost'."
