THE people of Marlborough must have been delighted with the Spirit of Christmas evening presented by the Chamber of Commerce in the town last Thursday.

Adults were treated to free mulled wine and mince pies while the children were well catered for with a free disco in the town hall, free Christmas presents and helium balloons.

The bands, carol singers and entertainers were excellent.

Congratulations to AISA and the Marlborough Cup, who were the main sponsors, and the many other small businesses that generously contributed.

The Chamber of Commerce worked tirelessly for days beforehand putting up the beautiful Christmas lights in our High Street and the Parade and on the day many worked from early morning until after midnight to ensure that we enjoyed this very successful event.

How many other towns could boast that a young family could be entertained all evening and arrive home with gifts and not have spent a penny?

Very well done Chamber of Commerce this was certainly the Spirit of Christmas at its best.
