DEVIZES-BASED All Cannings A became the first side to reach the final of the Chippenham & District Sunday League's Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup after defeating Premier Division rivals Dog & Fox Ashley 2-1.

Cannings, whose only other semi-final appearance came two seasons ago when they lost out after a replay to Pilot FC, were never really troubled in the PPL Presto Print-sponsored clash and won with goals from Steve Bush and Richard Mansell.

Bush was later dismissed for foul and abusive language and from the resulting free-kick, Matt Cottrell reduced the arrears in the final minute.

Cannings will meet either Biddestone Social Club or Box Rovers in the final.

Rovers set up a semi-final clash with the second division side after ending the dreams of Premier rivals Percy's FC, who they defeated 3-1.

Wayne Munday gave them the lead and Tom Smith doubled it.

Munday's second goal sealed the victory and Chris Hones pulled one back late on.

All the games in the Premier Division of the Vanitec Computers-sponsored Chippenham League were postponed on a day which saw more than half the fixture list wiped out due to waterlogged pitches.

DIVISION ONE

Gladstone Liberal Club have become the fourth team this season to resign from the league.

Club secretary and manager Ray Gainey pulled the plug after a series of problems, culminating in last week's defeat against Maud Heath Sports when a number of players failed to turn up.

Gainey said: "It was a hard decision to take, but when your regular players were failing to show any interest we were left with no other option".

A missed penalty from West Lavington's Simon Drewitt proved costly as the leaders suffered their first loss in 10 outings against a new-look Colerne side, whose 2-1 victory was their third straight win.

Colerne went ahead through Andy Long and Jamie Bowler added a second which came after Drewitt had struck the upright with his spot kick.

Matt Nash pulled a goal back for Lavington in the second half .

Atworth United went down 3-2 at home to The George Lacock.

Martin Symcox gave Lacock a slender advantage which was immediately cancelled out at the start of the second period by Atworth's Dan Adams.

Lacock were awarded a controversial penalty, converted by Tim Culling, to restore their lead but Atworth's 40-year-old striker Stuart Holland restored parity.

Lacock sealed their victory with two minutes left, courtesy of Culling who headed home Steve King's cross.

DIVISION TWO

Pig & Whistle United and Old Lane United were been relegated after the weekend's results.

Old Lane's 6-0 defeat against Biddestone Social Club and Pig & Whistle's 2-2 with neighbours Semington Rovers confirmed both clubs' fate.

Biddestone's win over Old Lane United moved them top of the table for the first time this season.

They took full advantage of Chippenham Black Horse inactivity to snatch the No 1 spot.

Three goals in the final six minutes made the scoreline more convincing after Luke Barrett and James Tindell had bagged first-half goals. John O'Meara, Tindell again and a double from Neil Harlock completed the half dozen.

Semington had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Pig & Whistle.

Rovers were almost upstaged by their bitter rivals who led 2-0 at half-time in an ill-tempered game.

Mark Bridger and Paul McCarthy were United's hit men with Kelvin Lockwood and Dan Phillips bringing Rovers level with goals in the final quarter.

Mark Burrell's 11th goal of the season 20 minutes from time was enough to give North Bradley a 1-0 victory over Wingfield.

Sutton Benger suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Farmhouse FC.

Tony Pritchard opened the scoring for Farmhouse in the 15th minute and keeper Adam Sheppard made it 2-0 from the penalty spot his fourth goal in as many games.

Nick Slade got Benger back into it with his 15 goal of the season, but further goals from Marc Sheppard and Lee Hayward sealed Farmhouse's fifth win in six games.

DIVISION THREE

Holt FC moved a step closer to Division Two but were given an almighty scare by Hare & Hounds before running out 3-1 victors.

The Third Division's runaway leaders scored twice in the last five minutes to deny the gutsy Hounds a vital point.

Neil Grant (2), and Tom Pang took their combined total to 61 goals for the campaign with Paul Revening netting the Hounds' consolation.

The game between Sir Audley's Arms and Corsham Centre produced 11 goals with Corsham prevailing 7-4.

Steve Mallard was first on the score sheet for the Arms but John Horne (2) and Dave Bolland replied to put Corsham 3-1 ahead.

Kieron Smith notched a hat-trick as the Arms retook the lead at 4-3, but Ashley Rich tied the scores and Horne completed his hat-trick before Luke Denham and a second from Rich completed the scoring.

AFC Unicorn and Somerford FC battled out a goalless first 45 minutes, before Unicorn pulled away for a 5-2 win.

Chris Summerhill's own goal sent them on their way and Dean Fry (2) and Danny Box (penalty) made it 4-0.

Chris Yeo pulled a couple back for Somerford, but Fry completed his hat-trick.

DIVISION FOUR

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club are emerging as serious title contenders following their 5-1 demolition of leaders Four Seasons.

Steve Munday opened and finished the scoring, with Chris Purdom, Jon Richardson's first goal of the season and a Chris Simpkins own goal sandwiching his efforts.

Gary Banks hit the Seasons' consolation, but they also had Adam Smith sent off.

For the first time in their short history, Classic FC claimed three wins on the trot after goals from Pete Brock (2) Nick Still and Adam Scarlett helped them defeat Plough 4-2, for whom Jason Harford and Wayne Duggan netted.

Jason Cole hit KSM's consolation as they were put to the sword by Bradstone Rovers who thumped them 7-1 with Alan Eades (3), Kieren McLaughlin (2), Jamie Dance and Celvin Dickenson sharing the goals.

This Sunday sees both semi-finals of the Rainbow Launderette-sponsored WG Parr Trophy.

Second Division Wingfield entertain Division Four leaders Four Seasons and Second Division North Bradley play hosts to Maud Heath Sports from Division One.
