SWINDON mayor Stan Pajak is entering the spirit of Comic Relief by dyeing his hair red.

Mr Pajak has volunteered for the image change as his contribution to Red Nose Day.

He said: "There is a first time for everything and it is all for a good cause. I am looking forward to seeing if red suits me."

His wife, Dawn, was shocked at the news.

She said: "Red really isn't his colour. He used to have long, blonde wavy hair down to his shoulders.

"But Stan is always game for a laugh and I hope he raises lots of money. I bought him a toupee once because he is a bit thin on top."

No stranger to changing his image, he played the part of Daisy Bell in a Cinderella, last month's pantomime by Dorcan Performing Arts Group.

And Mr Pajak is not the only one changing the colour of his locks this Thursday.

Samantha Ody, stylist at Goldsworthy's hairdressing salon in Catherine Street, also plans to dye her hair pillar box red and hopes to raise around £200 for charity.

Julian Clarke, manager and partner at Goldsworthy's, said: "It will be a pleasure to dye the mayor's hair. And one of our staff is keeping him company, so there will be plenty of eye-catching colour on the streets in Swindon."

The mayor is looking for sponsors for his hair dyeing session, and anybody wishing to help is asked to call on Swindon 463599.
