DANNY INVINCIBLE has been offered a new contract but Andy King believes the Australian's heart is set on a move away from the County Ground.

The Town boss has admitted he would like the striker to stay but has warned he will not be kept waiting for a decision from Invincible or anyone else.

King is adamant that anyone holding out for something better elsewhere will find the door shut in their face if they then report back for pre-season without having secured a new club.

But Invincible insists talk of his departure is premature and that he simply needs time to examine the deal on the table.

King said: "Danny has been presented with an offer but has made no response to the club.

"I think Danny has set his mind on leaving this football club, that's my opinion. What he is doing is waiting to see what offers come to him."

But whatever the Australian decides to do, King will not allow the matter to drag on endlessly.

He said: "I won't have players going away after the last game of the season, looking to find other clubs and then coming back to me cap in hand, no way.

"If I don't have an answer from Danny Invincible, or whoever, by the end of the season then they won't be in my plans for next season.

"Danny is a Bosman at the end of the year and we had to find out what his thoughts are.

He has a choice to make, as do other players, but so do I.

"I need a goalscorer. Danny Invincible and Eric Sabin have not produced the goals. Do I add to the three strikers I have or do I let one go to bring in another?

"They (Danny and Eric) haven't scored in two years what Sam Parkin has managed in one year."

Invincible said: "I am weighing up what is on offer. There's nothing to say that my mind is already made up.

"What I can say is that whatever the decision, it will not effect my performances for Swindon Town on the pitch."

As well as Invincible, King has also revealed that Matty Heywood was in contract discussions with the club.

He said: "Talks have begun with Matty about a deal."

Although King remains determined not to make public the majority of his contract decisions until the club are mathematically safe from the drop, he is adamant that the players are fairly clear about their respective futures.

He said: "I've made my mind up to be honest. Internally my lads are aware of my thoughts. I don't think there's one who doesn't know the situation."

But victory over Cheltenham Town tonight is top of King's priority list.

The County Ground boss was unhappy with the lack of 'fire in the belly' against Northampton and he is not prepared to accept a repeat showing.

"The performance lacked passion and we let ourselves down.

"One of them (the players) should have been rushing over to try and get that ball back from the dug-out to grab an equaliser, not me.

"The performance also let down the tremendous support we had at the game.

"They were fantastic, both in numbers and vocally.

"If we can take three points from Cheltenham, I would start to feel comfortable about the league situation, in that we will be very close to the important 50-point mark."
