FOOTBALL: SALISBURY City's lack of firepower again proved costly away at promotion rivals Stamford.

Despite creating numerous chances, Whites were unable to break the deadlock against one of the best home defences in the league. They still claimed a share of the spoils in their second consecutive goalless draw.

Manager Nick Holmes said: "We outplayed our opponents in the first half and created a few chances but couldn't turn the pressure into goals."

'Keeper Kevin Sawyer had to be alert in the second half to make a couple of fine saves to deny the home side.

"They had two good chances in the second half, but we were still playing all the football," added Holmes.

The City boss introduced new signing Leigh Phillips from the bench with 20 minutes remaining to bolster the attack.

The prolific striker, who has scored more than 40 goals this season for Jewson Wessex League outfit Lymington & New Milton, impressed his new boss who said: "Leigh looked very promising. He certainly worried their defenders."

City now face three more testing away trips this month against a trio of sides currently residing in the middle of the table. After Saturday's visit to Kent to take on Ashford Town, they head to Dartford on Tuesday evening.

A trek to Histon awaits them on March 22 before their next league home game with Chatham Town on March 29.

Holmes said: "These are three important games that we want to win to stay in touch with Bashley and Eastbourne Borough."
