LOST and confused delivery men should be a thing of the past in the lanes and roads of St Paul Malmesbury Without parish, thanks to a new house name map.

It has been put together by members of the parish council who trudged every street in the parish to collect every house number and name.

They hope it will end the plague of confused deliverymen knocking on parish doors to find an address and also hope that locals will find it useful.

Parish council vice chairman Jacky Martin said: "A similar thing was done in Oaksey a few years ago but there has never been anything like this done in the parish.

"We hope that it will stop delivery men turning up confused on our doorstep and help people find their way around the parish which can be quite confusing."

The map comes in a number of sections covering the areas in and around Filands, Milbourne, down to Burton Hill, Swindon Road and Rodbourne.

It will be published with the help of £400 from parish funds and the council hopes it will be distributed with the next parish magazine.

Mrs Martin said that it had taken a lot of hard work.

"The area we are covering is quite big and it has taken a lot of work both to get the names and put it together," she said.

Mrs Martin said the council would be giving copies of the map to the fire and police stations to help them in the event of an emergency incident in the parish.
