PUNTER John Dudek won nearly £60,000 - by picking the wrong horse.

John landed his huge gamble in last Saturday's Scoop6, when he had to pick all six winners of the televised races on Channel 4.

His first selection was horse number two, Massey, but he ticked off horse number one, Peruvian Chief, by mistake. Luckily for John Peruvian Chief won while Massey finishing second.

John, 49, of Liddington Street, Swindon, was the only winner of the nationwide competition.

An intense studier of form, he said: "I do the Scoop6 every week, and go on the internet to look at the form of all the horses."

He spends around £10 a week on the Scoop6 bet, and was one of 250 winners of a £1million jackpot last summer, collecting more than £5,000.

John, a jig fixture designer for cars, who works at VNF Designs, said: "I'm going to pay a few bills and reduce my mortgage and leave the rest in the bank."

Married with two children aged 18 and 10, he was alone in the house on Saturday afternoon.

"I began to get a bit excited after the first three winners, and when the last one went in you could say I was quite happy."

He now has the chance of winning a £23,000 bonus in a selected race on Saturday.

And if his selection wins, staff at Corals shop in Victoria Road where he is a regular punter, will share his success, as they will receive five per cent of the £23,000 from the Tote, which runs the Scoop6 bet.

His winning selections were: Peruvian Chief (5/1), Ibal (6/4), Te Quiero (16/1), Tanna River (7/1), Korelo (9/4) and Killusty (4/1).

Had he placed a £1 win accumulator bet on all six winners in a normal high street bookies he would have won £33,150.
