A TAXI driver escaped serious injury in a head-on collision at Potterne Woods on the A360.

The 42-year-old, whose name has not been released by police, was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon but was allowed home after treatment.

A 28-year-old Swindon man, who was driving a Vauxhall Cavalier that was in collision with the taxi, was cut free from his vehicle by emergency services before being flown to Salisbury District Hospital with serious leg injuries.

The crash took place shortly before 9pm on Saturday and the road was closed for several hours.

Potterne Woods was the scene of a triple fatal car crash in August 2001 when taxi driver Naomi Morris was killed after her Citroen was in collision with a Renault Laguna being driven by Lee Mead. Both drivers and Mr Mead's passenger, Shane Chivers, were killed.

l Four people were taken to hospital following a three-vehicle crash that blocked the A360 near Gore Cross, West Lavington, on Tuesday.

A Ford Transit van, a Toyota pick-up and a 900cc motorbike were in collision at about 7.30am.

The 54-year-old driver of the Toyota, which turned over in the crash, was airlifted to Salisbury District Hospital while his 17-year-old son, who a passenger, was taken to hospital in a road ambulance. Neither has life-threatening injuries.

The 34-year-old driver of the Transit, from Taunton, and the 44-year-old motorcyclist were both treated at hospital for minor injuries and released. The road was closed for four hours.
