A DEVIZES side drawn from all three senior squads proved too strong for Weston's second string in Saturday 8 March's friendly match.

With the wind at their backs Weston tried to compensate for lack of numbers by kicking for position and using their bigger pack in driving mauls and rucks, but they met stiff resistance from a resolute Devizes side.

Full back Andy Webb opened the scoring when he fielded a misdirected kick in his own 22. With room to move, he set off at pace on a long diagonal run and combined with Drew Johnson to score.

Devizes then disrupted a Weston scrum for Dave O'Sullivan to pick up the loose ball and feed winger Rich Cassleden, who sprinted 60 metres and dummied the fullback to score a spectacular converted try.

Webb created another superb try when he caught a Weston kick ahead, and made another long unopposed run before offloading to Cassleden, who recovered from a trip to score his second try.

Cassleden completed a hat trick of tries after a sweeping three-quarter move had completely shredded the Weston cover.

Weston dominated territory for a 20-minute spell after the interval but failed to score and the pressure was relieved when prop Simon Orr barged his way over to score following a storming run from Dave O'Sullivan.

The latter crowned a tenacious display with a try from a quickly taken penalty, only for brother Sean O'Sullivan to miss a simple conversion.

Skipper James Gaiger cantered over for the final try and O'Sullivan converted to complete the whitewash.
