WOOTTON Bassett returned from a trip to Gloucester's Longlevens a beaten side after a 31-14 reverse.

Bassett started the game well and for 10 minutes were camped on the home side's line but could not convert this pressure into points.

It was Longlevens that opened the scoring with a try from their second row under the posts to line up an easy conversion.

Five minutes later the Gloucester outfit touched down again through their big centre and again the extra two points were kicked.

With Bassett trailing by 14 points, a quick tap-penalty from fly-half Weeks saw number eight Keith Whittaker went over under the posts and full back Gareth Williams slotted the conversion

But Longlevens scored one more converted try before the break to give them a half-time lead of 21-7.

Early in the second period, Bassett scored again when No 8 Whittaker pounced on a loose ball and Williams again slotted the extra points.

With the difference only seven points it looked as if Bassett could pull back the lead.

But two more unconverted tries from the home side and a yellow card for Bassett's second row Flo Vialans finished them off.
