MINETY RUGBY: MINETY prospered in the wind, rain and mud on Saturday afternoon, dominating from start to finish in this friendly against Tetbury despite a lively performance from their hosts.

The home side eventually threw in the towel after 60 minutes when one of their props took an injury, by which stage Minety had already scored five tries without reply.

Despite the torrential rain, the visitors established an early lead when fly-half James Tweedale snapped a drop goal in the second minute of play.

Minety's first try came after 20 minutes, following a catch-and-drive move the pack drove their opponents back, and hooker Dave Peirce rolled off the back of the maul and dived over the line for the score.

Five minutes later, Minety stole Tetbury's lineout ball on the half way and set their three-quarters in motion. A towering up-and-under into the swirling wind posed questions of the home defence and centre Will Howse pounced on the ball before and storming in for a try which Tweedale converted.

Tweedale added to his tally when he dived over for a try before the break, and scrum-half Andy Brown's effort in the corner increased the lead in the second half.

The game ended after an hour's play following another try by Minety.

The visiting pack won a strike against the head by pushing their opponents off their own ball. Scrum-half Brown made a break up the blind side and delayed his pass until he had drawn in the defence, then released winger Simon Barrett who sprinted over for a try.

This Saturday, Minety travel to South Marston to play Supermarine in their final league game of the season. A win will give the champions a clean sweep in Division Two Nor
