ANDY KING will add a fresh face to his squad on Monday after unleashing 'the beast' at Mansfield Town today.

The County Ground boss has agreed a deal to bring an unnamed left sided midfielder/defender to the club in a bid to pep up his sluggish outfit.

King said: "If Saturday's result does not go in our favour then I may well gee things up ahead of the derby game (Bristol City) on Wednesday.

"I have agreed with the boy and the club in question to bring him in.

"The challenge is there for the players to respond."

Jerel Ifil, known to his colleagues as 'the beast' (due to his aggressive tackling style) will start alongside Alan Reeves and Matty Heywood at the back today.

Skipper Andy Gurney will move to right wing-back with David Duke set to switch to the left side, at the expense of fellow defender Jon Beswetherick.

The Town boss has already stated that Eric Sabin will start in attack against the Stags.

King said: "I want more passion and aggression, in the right way, and I think Jerel will give us that.

"The boy will probably be given his chance."

Beswetherick is still waiting to hear the length of his ban after being sent off against Cheltenham.

A lengthy absence would put a real cloud over his future at the County Ground.

King said: "Missing three matches in a month would be a real

headache in terms of the situation with the boy."

Today's game marks King's first trip back to Mansfield since his sacking in 1996.

He said: "It will be a day of emotions for me but what I want is to leave at 4.45pm having not lost a football match.

"Mansfield are very cavalier at home and sometimes play four up front. Even I haven't done that.

"I'll take 0-0 now if I'm truthful, although of course you want all three points."

What King will not accept is a repeat of the sloppy performance that saw Cheltenham romp to a 3-0 win in midweek.

He said: "I have told the lads that I have agreed to bring in a player.

"I had thought about doing it on Friday but I will wait and see what Mansfield brings.

"I believe the boy will improve us. I don't do things for the sake of it."

But as for 'the beast' he cannot wait to get stuck into the Stags.

Ifil said: "I'm hoping to play in my normal position.

"I want to play well and then try and stay in the team.

"And it's not just about impressing the manager here. I also want to show the Watford manager that I can do a job at first team level.

"We all want the win at Mansfield but I don't mind too much if I have a busy afternoon. That suits me."

Ticket prices for today's clash at Field Mill are as follows: £14 (adults) and £7 (juniors and senior citizens).
