FIREFIGHTERS wearing breathing apparatus took more than three hours to bring a blaze under control at a thatched property in Wilsford, near Amesbury, on Sunday.

Six pumping appliances and two special vehicles were called to the fire at Parsonage Cottage about 2.45pm, but the property was already well alight and crews had to tackle the blaze externally.

No one was hurt and they were able to save valuable property, but the upper floors were gutted and the ground floor was severely smoke-damaged.

The last appliance left the scene just before 7am on Monday.
