POLICE have said it was little short of a miracle that no-one was badly hurt when a car collided with a bus near the Sharcott turning south of Pewsey on Friday evening.

Officers said they were amazed that car driver Gary Mills, from Enford, and his four passengers walked away from the wreckage of the Ford Orion with only superficial cuts and bruises.

Police said Mr Mills was travelling along the A345 between Pewsey and the Woodbridge Inn when he had to take action to avoid a tractor and trailer turning across the road into Sharcott.

He managed to go on to the offside of the road to miss the farm vehicle but drove into the path of a Wilts and Dorset single decker bus.

Bus driver Roy Rix, of Marlborough, avoided a head on collision by driving his vehicle, which was empty of passengers, into a nearside hedge.

The Orion struck the side of the bus with such force that eye-witnesses said it was impossible to establish what make and model the car was.

Police officers said it was amazing that no one was hurt in the accident, which happened shortly after 5pm and left the road partly blocked for more than an hour.
