THE growing season is upon us. Yes the humps are growing like mushrooms, the traffic lights like runner beans and with the road closure like blocked drains, what a mess!

I agree with the fact that the people who speed are a danger and they need to be slowed down, however, do these humps achieve this at the inconvenience and cost of the majority of law abiding townsfolk.

I have seen cars being overtaken on these humps, and idiots driving above the speed limit over them, just to make a point. Why should the innocent be penalised with these unforgiving growths.

I am sure that most people would agree that 20mph is correct and fast enough in school and domestic areas, but putting humps in is not catching the culprit. What is needed is a severe fine or indeed a loss of licence to deter would be offenders, something like £10 per mile per hour over the limit, make it as unsociable as drink driving.

For a town like Swindon with a high amount of people employed making cars, why is the council so against them. The motto seems to be (you can make cars here but do not drive them here).
