CHIPPENHAM RUGBY: CHIPPENHAM held a fun day to mark the achievements and progress of their Mini Playing Section at Allington Field on Sunday.

The event began with an Olympic style series of events and featured presentations to players of age group sides between U7s and U12s.

For the U7s age group, coach Mike Williams gave a brief review of the season and stated that this age group ran two teams and praised the way that the boys and girls had grasped the concept of switch passing.

Sean Atkin, for the U8s, praised the members of his age group and made particular mention of the wins over a visiting touring side from the national club Saracens.

Brian Gorman read out a review of the season for the U9s. This was the first time that the boys had played the game of rugby using full contact and he felt that all of them had adjusted well from tag rugby to full contact rugby.

Mini Playing Section chairman Jeremy Stafford-Smith, head coach for the club's U10s, praised the member of his age group and thanked parents who had helped out with fundraising events.

Alun Bryant, who took over as head coach for the U11s from Martin Clark to leave the squad, guided his side to boys to fourth at the Newbury Festival, third in the Wiltshire Cup and second in the Chippenham Festival. He made mention of a 65-0 win over Midsomer Norton, the team's biggest win of the season.

Chippenham's U12s finished the season as the most successful mini team in Wiltshire and were winners of their age group at the Weston Super Mare Festival, the Newbury Plate, the Chippenham Festival.

On their way to being crowned Wiltshire U12 champions, the team scored 28 tries and had only one scored against them. The squad presented coaches Kevin Ingram and Nigel Coton with awards to thank them for their efforts.

Chippenham RFC celebrated the achievements of their junior playing section on Friday night at the club's annual junior dinner.

The guest speaker was Frank Butler, the RFU Academy Manager for Bath Rugby.

More than 150 current players, coaches and other guests sat down to a three course meal at the club's premises at Allington Field and afterwards listened while Jerry Field, the club's manager of rugby, read out a list of the juniors' successes last term.

Each section also honoured members who had achieved progress throughout the current season.

The U16s recognised the efforts of their coaches Jerry Garraway and Chris Saville with two special presentations. Garraway was presented with a framed shirt with the names of each of the squad players embroidered on it.
