Swindon cares is a new campaign which aims to raise funds for three worthy causes in the town, and has the backing of major organisations locally. BHAVANI VADDE reports

The launch of a new fundraising drive is set to give a further boost to the Swindon Cancer Appeal and other charities in the town.

Swindon Cares is an initiative supported by Nationwide, Zurich, GWR Comunity Trust, the Rotary Club of Swindon, Swindon Council, the Swindon Chamber and the Evening Advertiser.

The partnership aims to involve as many people as possible in fundraising activities during Swindon Cares week, which takes place between July 12 and 19.

They want schools, community groups, companies and individuals to help raise a minimum of £10,000 during that time.

The beneficiaries of this year's Swindon Cares event are Age Concern Swindon, NSPCC Swindon and Macmillan Cancer Relief's Swindon Cancer Appeal, which is already supported by the Evening Advertiser.

Steph Trinci, from the Swindon Chamber of Commerce, said: "We hope that everybody in Swindon will join in to do something to benefit the whole community.

"Swindon Cares is unique in that the money raised will help a wide range of people. Most people in the town will be able to identify with one of the charities.

"This is the first year, so we hope it will grow and continue next year and for years to come.

To help make charity events a real success, Swindon Cares has produced fundraising packs containing inspirational ideas as well as, advice and money-making tips. These packs are being posted to businesses and schools. If you want to get hold of one, contact Pam Webb on 502450 or email her on pam.webb@uk.zurich.com

The information is also available on the Swindon Cares website www.swindoncares.co.uk.

Potential fundraisers will have the chance to meet members of the committee as well as find out more about the three charities at the launch event on June 20. That will take place between noon and 2pm in the Winners Lounge of Swindon Town Football Club and includes a buffet lunch.

Whatever you, your school or business decide to do, the Evening Advertiser wants to hear about it, so call the news desk on Swindon 528144 ext 262.
