THE Saturday morning procession in the town centre was most enjoyable, despite the fact it wasn't as long as last year's.

The costumes were well made and colourful and the wearers were full of enthusiasm.

The bystanders were smiling and clapping to the music and forgetting the usual Saturday shopping chore. There wasn't a police officer in sight.

For an over 80-year-old it brought back memories of the excitement of taking part in a carnival in the 1930s when I was a child of 12.

I send my thanks to the organisers of the event.
