AN insider at RAF Lyneham's largest contractor claims the actual number of job losses will be larger than was admitted last week.

HCS Babcock announced 31 proposed redundancies. But the source, who does not wish to be named, claims the company will shed an additional ten to 13 jobs of employees over the age of 65 whose temporary contracts will not be renewed.

The source also reiterated the views of other workers who feel the announcement was released to coincide with the Government's decision to close the base.

A HCS Babcock spokesman denied the announcement was delayed and dismissed claims of extra job losses from older employees as speculation.

HCS Babcock supplies the RAF base with personnel to maintain aircraft air propulsion units.
