ELLAND Road is ready to cater for 7,000 Swindon Town fans if the demand for tickets in Wiltshire proves overwhelming.

The Carling Cup clash with Leeds United has captured the imagination of fans who believe Andy King's men are capable of causing an upset.

Ticket office staff at the County Ground are pleading for patience however as the two clubs have yet to agree prices for the match, with an initial allocation to follow.

Those details should be available to supporters by the end of the week, hopefully before Saturday's clash with Notts County.

A Leeds United spokesman said: "It obviously depends on the demand but the ground can hold up to 7,000 visiting supporters.

"We had Newcastle United here on Sunday and they brought a considerable number of fans with them.

"With this match against Swindon being in midweek, we're not quite sure what the demand will be."

A huge following could see Town fans take up the South Stand behind one of the goals at Elland Road, with a more modest following leading to a section in the south-east corner of the ground.

Swindon Town Supporters Club spokesman Nigel Bennett said: "My initial feeling is that we would be looking at an away contingent of around 2,000.

"Obviously it would be wonderful to take a good deal more but whatever the numbers I'm sure we will make ourselves heard and give our team tremendous vocal support.

"If we could pull off a shock then I'm sure it might make the football world sit up and take notice of Swindon Town."

The match, which will take place on Wednesday, September 24, is already attracting a great deal of interest and the phone lines at the County Ground have been extremely busy.

Ticket office manager Stuart Pike said: "Leeds is an attractive fixture and we're already taking calls about it. We don't have the details as yet so I'd ask people to be patient."

However, it is not just the prospect of a match with Premiership opposition which is causing staff to be rushed off their feet.

Mr Pike said: "There is a real buzz around the place at the moment and people are coming in to talk about football rather than in the past where it's sometimes been grumbles about prices.

"The interest in league matches is good.

"We have an allocation of 1,337 for the match at Bournemouth on Monday and we're expecting to sell all those. It's all very encouraging."
