PEDESTRIANS and cyclists are soon set to benefit from new footpaths and tracks at Groundwell Ridge.

The main track, which is just under a mile, will link the existing routes in the west and east. Work is scheduled to start next Tuesday and will take about 12 weeks.

Four footpaths will also link the main west to east route with the nearby housing estates located to the north and south of the open space area the footpaths and cycle tracks will include street lighting.

Swindon Council has been able to construct these paths with money from developers through section 106 funding a clause in planning permission that obliges developers to improve the infrastructure.

The council's technical services are managing the project with Swindon Services appointed as the main contractor.

The existing bridleway construction improvement will use "horse-friendly" substances like granular materials, topsoil and grass.

A path will be kept open during the construction period for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
