GIRLS wanting to bend it like Beckham rather than sing along to the Spice Girls are being invited to join a rapidly expanding girls' football team.

Swindon Badgers Girls FC are looking for new players of all abilities to swell the ranks of the Old Walcot-based club from one team to five.

After coming third in the under-12s division of the Wiltshire County Ladies and Girls Football League last year the Badgers are returning next season with two under-10 teams, two under-12 teams and one team for girls aged under 14.

"Girls' football is the fastest growing sport in Britain and Swindon Badgers FC is the fastest growing club in Wiltshire," said club secretary Paul Robinson.

"The more the girls play the better they get. It's still a struggle to get sponsorship but we're getting there."

The club was formed a year ago after several girls who played mixed football expressed an interest in forming their own team.

The Badgers Girls practice at Lainsmead Primary School every Wednesday from 6pm-8pm. For details call Mr Robinson on 07763 321862.
