CHIPPENHAM Town manager Tommy Saunders has brought former Bluebirds favourite Shane Andrews back to the club to add defensive cover.

Andrews said an emotional farewell to the Chippenham faithful after the final game of last season at Halesowen and joined Screwfix Premier Division Brislington.

But with Chippenham defender Gareth Davies doubtful for the immediate future after he picked up a rib injury at Nuneaton on Saturday, Saunders approached Andrews about making a return to Hardenhuish Park.

"We don't know how long Gareth might be out for so we needed to get someone in quickly," Saunders said.

"Obviously I know all about Shane and told him the door would always be open for him to come back some time. He left us at the start of the summer to join Brislington but things have not worked out for him and I'm pleased that he's back."

Andrews signed for Chippenham in 1998 and helped the club to their first Wembley appearance and back-to-back promotions.

He was on the bench for the Tiverton game on Wednesday and will in the squad for Saturday's home match against Chelmsford City.

Chippenham will follow-up the Chelmsford clash by travelling to face Weston-Super-Mare on Bank Holiday Monday.
