THE family of Charlotte Wakeham, who has an inoperable brain tumour, believe they may have reached the end of the road in their search for a cure.

The future looks bleak for the eight-year-old Westbury girl who was diagnosed with the rare brain tumour last year.

She was put on a trial drug, an anti-depressant called Chlori-pramine, which doctors believe shrank the tumour temporarily, but is now very ill and doctors have warned her parents she may have just months left to live.

Her grandmother, Wendy Bryant, who lives in Devizes, has been scouring the internet but has failed to find a wonder drug that might save Charlotte.

She said: "Her time is limited and there's nowhere that will take her for any more trials.

"Charlotte says she just wants to be a normal little girl but she is so unwell her parents have to watch her 24 hours a day."

When her granddaughter first became ill, Ms Bryant set up Charlotte's Chance of Life to help fund research into new drugs.

Specsavers in Trowbridge is donating proceeds from an anniversary raffle to the fund.

Yasmin Andrews, clinical assistant at Specsavers, said the opticians hoped to raise about £500 at the event on August 30.

Anyone wanting to donate money to help Charlotte can call Ms Bryant on (01380) 727130.
