ANY paper that trumpets across its front page that a paedophile has been 'caged' is more interested in rabble-rousing (and selling papers) than in news as such. This is confirmed in your Opinion column when you state "people have the right to know when a known paedophile moves into the area".

The News of the World named a paedophile in Portsmouth and a house was destroyed. If the Wiltshire Times did a similar thing it would probably lead to lynch-law. If that is what the Wiltshire Times wants, it should say so.

Clearly a legal system that allows repeat offenders back into the community is wrong but the remedy is to change the law, rather than encourage vigilantes. If you must have a rant, why did you miss an obvious target? The report said the single mother met Littler at a nightclub and "within days, the paedophile suggested they could stay at his flat, where he abused the girls".

Does this mean the mother met a total stranger and within days had moved into his flat with her two vulnerable children? If so, someone should be asking questions. Has the mum received any child support to ensure her children are properly cared for and has she met her side of the bargain?

And does the Wiltshire Times have an opinion on this? Apparently not, if it means spoiling a good story.

D DORNEY,

Westbury.

The Wiltshire Times would never encourage naming paedophiles if it would lead to vigilantism. What the Opinion column stated was that there are no simple answers to the problem.
