Ref. 13962-2A WOMAN escaped serious injury after her car nose-dived into a hedge near Trowbridge.

The accident happened during the Monday morning rush hour as the woman was driving her Chrysler Voyager along the A350 near Stoney Gutter.

A burst rear-tyre forced the driver to swerve across the carriageway and career into a farm gateway.

The car came to rest on its side, with its bonnet wedged in a gateway on the opposite side of the road.

PC Richard Monk, of Westbury traffic unit, attended the scene.

He said: "The driver had minor injuries and shock and was taken to Trowbridge Hospital, but released later."

PC Monk said the woman was lucky not to have been seriously hurt.

Police have reissued warnings to motorists to conduct thorough checks of their vehicles before belting up and driving off.

PC Monk said: "When we inspected the car, we found the wheel which had the blow-out had a nail wedged in it, which is why it deflated so suddenly, and why the woman lost control.

"There is a safety issue here, and people should check their tyres carefully before they drive their cars."
