Bathampton member Darren Pinkett had a memorable day fishing the Club waters on the Bristol Avon at Claverton, taking his first barbel which tipped the scales at 12 lb 0oz

Competitors enjoyed good sport in the Wednesday Open match at Ivy House fishery. Top honours went to Ivy House's Simon Collins of Chippenham with an all carp catch of 60lb 4oz Runner-up was Frome's Andy Lloyd of Haines Angling with another carp catch of 58 lb 6 oz .

There was a close finish to the Chippenham Open on Saturday. Lobbys MG's Jamie Warren snatched victory with a bream and roach catch weighing 11lb 3oz 8dm.

Chippenham's Mark Wooldridge just failed to take top spot with an all roach catch of 11lb 3oz. Chippenham's Steve Palmer was a close up third with another all roach catch of 10lb 15oz 8 dm. Other placings: 4 Nigel Crewe Lobbys MG 9 lb 12 oz; 5. Jason O'Dell Wootton Bassett 7 lb 15 oz.

In the Lavington match at Baldham Mill only half an ounce separated the winner from the runner-up. Trowbridge's Ernie Jones won with a mixed bag of roach, dace and gudgeon weighing 3 lb 1oz.

Mark Williams of Devizes matched him fish for fish to take the second prize with 3lb 0oz 8dm. There was a tie for third place between Worton's Chris Brown and Lavington's John Cooper with 1lb 9oz 8dm.

The Waterside Angling Club match fished at Witherington Farm produced reasonable sport. Honours on the day went to Frome's Anthony Shepherd with 57 lb 3 oz followed by Crockerton's Steve Sheppard. Similar tactics gave third prize to Frome's Trev Norris Other placings: 4. Mike Vranch Midsomer Norton 30 lb 12 oz; 5. Chris Hallett Frome 29 lb 12 oz.

The Wilts Angling Open match fished at Todber Manor produced outstanding sport with carp. Gillingham's John Candy gained a runaway victory with an all carp catch of 127 lb 10oz. Bradford's Ian Willetts was second with 84 lb 10oz followed by Trowbridge's Fred Eagles with 76 lb 11 oz .
